David Lee Terhune

David Lee Terhune, age 53, of Dover, Delaware formerly of Milford, DE and Greensboro, MD lost his final battle against the odds passing away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

David worked in several industries, from factory to retail, but his favorite was as a security guard, protecting and serving at several hotels and later at Midway Slots in Harrington, DE. No matter what he did, he gave it his all despite many health struggles.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jennifer Lynn Terhune (formerly Jennifer Lynn Patterson) of Dover, DE, his father, Harold William Terhune, Jr. of Greensboro, MD, his brothers: Billy (Harold W. Terhune, III), of Smyrna, DE and Jonathan S. Terhune of Denton, MD, his nephews: Will (Harold W. Terhune, IV), Matthew S. Terhune and Alexander M. Terhune of Smyrna, DE , and niece Abry M. Terhune of Greensboro, MD.

He will be missed for his unwavering ability to always bring levity to any situation, his delicious BBQ, homemade pies, cookies and holiday meals, his wonderful sense of humor, loyalty and honesty, love for animals, his creative art and painting, and debating and lecturing history and other random knowledge he soaked up like a sponge.

May he always ride free on the winds and in peace.

Dave was certainly one-of-a-kind— in the best of ways! He loved to make people smile, had a great sense of humor topped off with an infectious laugh, and was good at lightening the mood of any situation. He’s always been a passionate collector of lots of cool things, and loved to tell a good story. He was blunt and liked us to think he had a badass attitude (but we all knew he was truly kind and sweet underneath all that!). I hadn’t seen Dave in a long while, but I’m truly glad to have had him as a BIL on Team Terhune. I’ll hold on to lots of fun memories, and I send love and gentle hugs to everyone in the family. 💙

Dave was as loyal as they come and a true friend. I will miss the straight forward funny guy that was there in the good and bad times. I know that he will be missed by everyone he knew. I know I will miss my friend.

My Uncle Dave was unique, I have a lot of memories from my childhood where he was tough and straightforward. He always seemed to have a joke or story ready for my brothers and I. When I was a kid on Christmas morning he told us about the time he shot Santa Claus in the butt as he came down the chimney, and I of course believed him. Even when I hadn't seen him for a while I never did stop thinking about him. I'm grateful to have an Uncle like him, and I'll miss him.
