Charles “Chuck” Knothe, a dedicated family man and attorney, passed away on September 16, 2024, one month shy of his 80th birthday.
Born in New York City, Chuck’s childhood saw him living in South America, Iowa, New Jersey, Florida and Massachusetts. He was a firm believer in education, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an MBA from Drexel University and a JD from the Delaware Law School of Widener University. He also was enrolled at Case Western Reserve and taught statistics while a student there.
Chuck served in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, reaching the rank of Captain. Prior to becoming an attorney Chuck worked for the duPont Company. Passionate about education and believing learning should start at an early age, he was on the Board of Directors of Wilmington Head Start, serving as President for many years.
An automobile enthusiast, Chuck owned several Corvettes over the years, as well as two Mustangs earlier in life. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and built many impressive pieces of furniture.
Chuck is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, daughter Lynn and son-in-law Greg Cauller, son Paul and daughter-in-law Brandy, and grandchildren Ethan and Leila, and of course his beloved dog Alexus.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Interment will be at the Christ Church Garden of Praise.
The family would like to give special thanks to Delaware Hospice for their care and compassion in ministering to Chuck. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, earmarked for Esophageal Cancer Research.
