Nancy Regina Fogg Parsons

Nancy Regina Fogg Parsons, age 79, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on August 4th, 2024 at Kutz Nursing Home, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

She grew up in Hyde Park in Boston, MA; the daughter of George and Freda Fogg, and graduated from Hyde Park High School.  She then went to UMass-Amherst, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts in 1969, majoring in English and minoring in art.  She developed a love of writing poetry and drawing during that time.  She worked as a nurses’ aide at New England Baptist Hospital and Cooley Dickinson Hospital while in college.  Education was very important to Nancy, and she worked at the UMass library for several years, before traveling to live in Spain, Italy and Morocco for several years in the mid-1970s.  Afterwards, she returned to the UMass library for several more years, before moving to New Jersey and then Delaware and raising her two children.  She later returned to her favorite profession; working at the Concord Pike, Brandywine Hundred and Claymont libraries from 1990 to 2017.  Nancy was an avid reader, talented at drawing and loved cooking.  She was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, ever since her father took her to games at Fenway Park when she was a child.  She also loved traveling, visiting England and Scotland with her family several times.

Nancy was warm and compassionate and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.  She is survived by her son John Parsons, daughter Jennifer Sturgess, son-in-law Adam Sturgess, and granddaughter Lila Sturgess.  She also is survived by her brother Stephen Fogg, nieces Linda Smith, Sandy Royce and Donna Fogg, and many cousins.  She is also survived by in-laws who meant very much to her, including Dianne Theriault, Bobby Parsons, Linda Rude, John Parsons, JoAnne Braun and Wayne Parsons.

Nancy’s ashes will be buried in a family grave in Boston; details to follow on a memorial in October.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Delaware (LLS), for their annual Light the Night fundraising event on October 5th.  The Barclays team fundraising page is available at https://pages.lls.org/ltn/de/wilmington24/barclays.  The team’s total raised will be matched by Barclays in October.

You were my sister and good friend for so many years. It was so sad to watch your long battle with cancer and I admire your resilience in the face of all of the treatments that you had to go through. Finally you now can rest in peace.

My dear Aunt Nancy, although we lived hundreds of miles apart for most of our lives, we were still able to keep in touch quite often thanks to the invention of the telephone. I will miss our frequent chats about our families, jobs, etc., but I'm thankful that you are now finally at peace after your long battle with cancer. You were such a fighter, but the disease finally won out in the end. We will never forget you and miss you forever.

    Carrie Barber writes,
Nancy was a co-worker of mine at the Concord Pike Library. She was a very kind soul to me, who noticed that I was struggling to learn the ins and outs of the position I was ASSIGNED, assessed my skill level, and was able to convince management to place me in a more suitable position where SHE had been working at the time, AND, over time, she and I became, as the expression goes, 'Fast friends.' Rest in peace, Nancy. You'll be missed.

My condolences to Nancy's family and loved ones. I met her while working at the Concord Pike Library and we would go to Borders at lunch time, and on occasion hang out after work etc. She was a very kind to me and I so enjoyed my time spent with her. She came from my home state and I connected with that. Her life experiences were so interesting and her love of her children and concern for their wellbeing was apparent when she spoke of them. May she rest in peace back home in Massachusetts.
