Eugene Henry Beer, III

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene (Gene) Beer, of Wilmington, DE at the age of 83. He passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 1, 2024 in Port Deposit, MD at Tomes Landing Marina.

Gene was born in Baltimore, MD in 1940, son of the late Eugene Beer Jr. and Doris Elliot Beer. He attended McDonough High School and then graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  He was married to the late Reda Bell Beer and they spent more than 55 happy years together.

In 1975, Gene opened and operated ICS, a packaging company in Baltimore, MD and then had the opportunity to move the company to the Port of Wilmington with his business partner and good friend, John Foreman.  In the summer of 2008 he sold the business and retired.  This allowed Gene to spend more time playing tennis at Greenville Country Club and enjoying his boat down on the Susquehanna River.  The boat was his favorite place to go fishing and swimming, and to hang out with his buddies drinking Busch Light.

Gene is survived by his sons, Jay and George Beer, and his two grandsons Austin and Andrew Beer.

A memorial brunch will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 11:00 to 2:00 at the Greenville Country Club, 201 Owls Nest Road, Wilmington, DE 19807.  If you would like to join us for the Celebration of Life, please RSVP to Jay Beer at 302-593-6771 or ehbeer4@aol.com.  Jay would also love to reconnect with any family members and relatives that we have lost touch with over the years.

Condolences

Julie Morgan lit a candle and writes,
My condolences to the Beer family on Gene's passing. Writing this, I can almost hear his hearty laugh. My fond memories include my 1/2 hour meetings with Gene that typically turned out to be 1 - 3 hours, which I truly enjoyed. His stories about his time on his boat were some of my favorites. Gene was one of my favorite clients and a friend. Together again with Reda, Gene will be missed. God bless.

Gene and I became neighbors, fellow boaters and more importantly friends about twenty years ago. We had a great many enjoyable opportunities to commiserate and endeavor to solve the world’s problems. He was a gentleman’s gentleman. May he rest, again with Reba, in the arms of a loving God. May his sons find some measure of peace in the knowledge that their parents are together again.

John and I are so sorry about Gene's passing. When we first moved to Port Deposit, we met Gene when he put up his boat for sale. We ended up buying his boat. He was so happy with his new boat, a Parker. Our boat's slip was right near his and John, Gene and Bob became friendly. He will be missed. RIP Gene

So sorry for your loss Jay & George. I remember your dad fondly. I believe I have a picture of him and I around somewhere after one of our softball championships. We'll be thinking about you and keeping you in our prayers.
