Why Choose Chandler
Above all, Chandler’s is a family funeral home. Ever since it was founded by James T. Chandler Sr. on West Ninth Street, Wilmington, Delaware in 1892, four generations of our family have been dedicated to preserving and building on our reputation for service, professionalism, and community involvement.
More than 125 year later, Chandler family members are still serving our community from two convenient locations, in Wilmington and in Hockessin, Delaware, which was opened in 1978. This facility was New Castle County’s first crematory owned by a family funeral home. Today, James T. Chandler IV and his younger brother Chad are still very active serving families. We’re proud to offer this long heritage of Chandler family service to the people of the Wilmington area.

Two Locations
We own and operate two conveniently-located funeral homes, and the first on-premise crematory in the greater Wilmington area. Our Concord Pike location in Wilmington offers a spacious chapel and foyer that reflects the dignity and serenity appropriate for any type of funeral service. Years ago, the Chandler children planted the many white pine trees that surround the facility.
The Chandler Funeral Home in Hockessin is nestled against a hillside in the rolling country off Lancaster Pike Route 41. Inside, a recently renovated facility and floor-to-ceiling frosted glass window bathes the chapel in peaceful light. In keeping with the family tradition, the landscaping was designed by the Chandler family and reflects the natural beauty of the Hockessin community.
What People Say
