Linda H. O’Connor

Linda Hardy O’Connor died peacefully on May 22, 2024, at her home at the Country House in Wilmington, DE.

Linda was born in 1940, to Vernal and Zella Hardy of Wilmington, DE, and earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry at Bucknell University.  She met her husband to be, Brian O’Connor, while completing graduate work in chemistry at the University of Illinois and worked as a chemist for the DuPont Company.  Linda and Brian enjoyed many happy years together in various locales as Brian’s work with DuPont took them all over the world.  Linda was one of a fortunate few to set foot on every continent.  She enjoyed skiing, tennis, golf, traveling, reading and cats. Linda was a generous person, having shared one of her kidneys with a dear friend years ago, and also sharing her gift of music with many.  She was a regular substitute organist and played at many churches in the greater Wilmington area. Linda was also an integral part of the Choir School of Wilmington since its inception and performed during many productions for Opera Delaware.

In her later years, Linda enjoyed long walks and looking at the clouds.  An admirer of nature until the end, Linda always commented on weather patterns and liked to smile at the sun.  Her favorite place was a quiet lake in New Hampshire where she spent many a summer’s day immersing herself in God’s wondrous creation.  Linda’s family would like to thank the Country House and its staff for the wonderful care that she has received.

A memorial service for Linda will take place on July 6th at 10AM at the chapel at Christ Church in Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages anyone who is so moved to make a donation in Linda’s name to the Choir School of Delaware or Opera Delaware.
