Gail A. Slothour

Gail A Slothour, age 85 of Wilmington, Delaware passed away May 17, 2024, after a short illness. Gail was born the only child of Grace Kratz Andrews Hickey and Robert L Andrews in Lancaster County, PA. She graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster in 1956. She then attended Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing and earned her RN license in 1959. She spent many years caring for others as an operating room nurse, general duty nurse, home health care nurse, and private medical practice nurse (Pediatrics and Gastroenterology) until her retirement in 2002. Gail married her sweetheart, Donald Slothour, on September 20, 1959. Together they moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1960 where Gail lived until her death.

As a young woman, Gail loved to sing. She participated in vocal competitions and performed at various venues in Lancaster. She continued to love music throughout her life. She was initiated in 1971 into Chapter G (Delaware) of the PEO International Sisterhood, an organization promoting education for women. She went on to serve in all offices at both the local and state chapter levels, serving as Chapter President (1984-1985) and as the Delaware State President (1993-1994). She considered the time she spent with her PEO sisters to be a great blessing in her life. Gail was also a founder and Director of Youth Club at The Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Wilmington, DE. In that role she dedicated countless hours to feeding both the stomachs and souls of many lucky children. During that time she also served on the Session and as a Deacon. Currently Gail attended RiverCross Fellowship where she considered it a great honor to serve on the prayer team for many years and lend a hand with other endeavors as she was able. She joyfully shared her great love for Jesus with everyone she met.

Gail was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Donald L Slothour on March 1, 2004, and by her son-in-law Robert L Horsey Jr on January 20, 2022. She is survived by her son Scott Slothour (Cyndi) of Wilmington, DE, her daughter Kimberly Horsey of Middletown, DE, and her daughter Karen Conner (Cater) of Forest VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert Horsey III (Stephanie), Christopher Horsey, Joseph Alcaraz, Michael Conner (Susannah) and Gregory Conner. She will be greatly missed by her great-grandchildren: Hailey and Hannah Horsey, and Loren and Adrienne Conner. She is also survived by several cousins.

Gail was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Time spent with her family was precious to her. She enjoyed creating flower arrangements, crafting, holiday decorating and gatherings, spending time at the beach, listening to music, and spending time with her many friends. She was a great cook and enjoyed opening her home to entertain others.

A Celebration of Life Service for Gail will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2:00 pm at RiverCross Fellowship, 77 McCullough Dr, Suite 2, New Castle DE 19720.
