Stella Kehinde Dosunmu

Stella Kehinde Dosunmu passed away peacefully at her home in Claymont, DE, surrounded by her loving family on the night of April 7th, 2024, following a courageous battle with kidney disease, at the age of 69. Born in 1954, in Owo, Nigeria, she entered the world just moments after her beloved twin sister. She was the 3rd of 5 children born to Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Mabel Williams.

Stella’s early career led her to work in customs in Lagos in her twenties before pursuing secretarial studies at Auchi Polytechnic. She then served as a secretary at First City Merchant Bank in Lagos for many years. In 1996, she relocated to Delaware with her two children and transitioned into healthcare, where she dedicated herself to serving the geriatric population.

A proud Yoruba woman, Stella found her greatest joys in her faith, family, and community. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always putting the needs of her loved ones above her own. Stella enjoyed gardening, music, fashion, spending time with her beloved grandson, and caring for her two feline companions.

Stella is survived by her children, Olutomi Dosunmu and Rotimi Dosunmu, her grandson, Micah, her twin sister, Mrs. Sarah Agbaje, and her siblings, Mr. Babatunde Oluremi Williams of Abuja, Nigeria, Mr. Idowu Williams of Lagos, Nigeria, and Mrs. Alaba Ajakpo of Jos, Nigeria.

Funeral Services

A memorial service to celebrate Stella’s life will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, on April 13, 2024, at 11:00am.  The Dosunmu and Williams families extend their heartfelt gratitude to friends and relatives from near and far, including the United Kingdom and Nigeria, for their overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

Stella will be remembered for her unwavering love, strength, and commitment to her family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and selflessness that will be cherished forever. May she rest in peace knowing she was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

My aunty was a very loving mother of two boys. She was very concerned about the family and will hardly say no whenever you approach her for any needs. I vividly remember my days while at Yabatech, anytime am broke I will run to her at FCMB, and she always sorted me out. She always radiate pleasant smiles and will say Kayode don't fight with anybody, just come to the office anytime. I did remember too when she was staying at Gbagada area, am always looking forward to meeting her because I know I will not go home empty handed. Her smiles and calmness endeared me to be so close to her. I pray to God almighty to grant her perpetual forgiveness and accept her soul with purity of her heart in Jesus Christ mighty name 🙏 May God almighty comfort us that are left to mourn her departure. We honestly believe she is resting with the Lord. God bless her children mightily.

Elizabeth Olubukola Adeniran lit a candle and writes,
Good night sister, until we meet again. Sis. Stella was one of my first cousins. She was a 'big sister' to us as our mothers raised us all. We were closely knt as our mothers were; and she looked after us as such. Some of my siblings spent a whole year with the William's family in 1972 and she dotted on us whilst we were there. I still enjoyed being the 'little' sister at every opportune time. Last year, at 61 years myself, and when the twin sister (Taiwo) visited the UK, they both bought various gifts for me as if I was still that little girl.... Sister Kehinde (as fondly called) was beautiful in and out. Her walk with the Lord gave me the reassurance that she has gone to be with the Lord. She came. She saw; and she has conquered. May her soul rest in peace. You will forever live in our memory. Our loss is heaven's gain.

A BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS WOMAN. Sister Kehinde was an encouragement to me while she was in Lagos, Nigeria. She was the first of my wife's siblings that I met when me and my wife were courting. Sister Kehinde was full of love, she had faith in God, her friendliness and encouragement was heart warming and beautiful. Her courage in raising her children in the face of very challenging circumstances reflected the characteristics of a brave and victorious woman. She was always joyful in spite of challenges. Her faith in God, joyful life and optimism has been a source of inspiration to many. What a life! May God comfort all of us who are mourning this great loss. Amen.

‘Blessed are those who die in the Lord, they rest from their labors and their works follow them’ Rev. 14:13 Even though, we had little or no time to process the news of your illness before that of your passing was received; it has been shocking to say the least; but the fact that you knew the Lord has been a comfort. So indeed now, you are at rest, our dear cousin and sister. Departing just a couple of weeks before your 70th, who are we to question the Lord? Our continued prayer is for us all who mourn your demise most especially your twin sister, Taiwo, our older brother, Bro Olu, your other younger siblings (Idowu & Alaba), your dear children Tomi and Timi, and the rest of the family of our late dear aunt, Mama Ondo aka Mama Williams, (my mom, Mama Mrs C. O. Osisanya’s sister), both of blessed memory. May the Lord uphold the legacy you left behind and rain down His comfort, mercy and grace on all who mourn your departure in Jesus name. You have definitely left a gap and is missed already! Until resurrection morning, goodnight dear Kehinde. Sola (for my immediate and extended families).

Wole Akinyemi lit a candle and writes,
I call her Sister Kenny. She was that to me and more because I practically grew up under her care when I lived with the Williams for years. Together with her amiable twin Sister Taiwo and her siblings we were inseparable cushioned in the love and care and parental protection of saintly Pa Williams and my unforgettable Aunt Mama Modupe Mabel Williams. Even when my amazing cousin relocated to the USA she remained in close contact with me and was her usual generous and approachable self. No airs around her. She was an important magnet enhancing the cohesion and unity of her extended family. Her last generosity to me was two years back when I had an award. Sister Kenny was very vivacious, sociable, humble, accomodating, approachable and so forthright! I have lost a premium soul and a very caring sister. My prayers and condolences to her nuclear family, the Williams, the Osisanyas and the Akinyemis. It's not how long but how well. Our departed sister had left indelible footprints in the sand of time. She loved and served God to the end and gave sacrificially to humanity. May her kind soul find repose in the Lord. Prof Wole Akinyemi.

    Julia Williams writes,
Stella Kehinde Dosunmu was my sister-in-law. Her older brother, Tunde Williams, is my husband. We first met in Warri, Nigeria, in 1978 when my husband was working there. She was working in a nearby town called Benin from where she used to visit regularly, and started learning how to play lawn tennis. Many years later we were both resident in the US in neighboring States, so our friendship continued. Kenny as we sometimes called her succeeded in raising her children single handedly as a single working mother. Today they are highly responsible and successful young adults. Kenny was a good Christian and quite prayerful. My condolences go to the Williams family here in the US and in Nigeria. May her soul Rest In Peace. Julia Williams

    Natalya Beltran writes,
Hello everyone, my name is Natalya Beltran. I was my beautiful Miss Stella's caregiver. I was fortunate enough to take care of Mom and to love her. I never saw her as a client, I saw her as someone I loved from my own family. I'm going to miss her truly. I'm going to miss all the great times we had together. The moments we listen to music together. The moments where we talked about God together. The day I put makeup on her and she said I made her look crazy LOL. The very first time that she was able to go up to her sister's house to see her, after she had her surgery. I'm going to miss the way she looked at her grandson every time he came running down the stairs to greet her. I'm going to miss her beautiful smile, and her beautiful laughter. For the time that I was with her I was able to see her strength and I was fortunate enough to be there till the end. It was a complete honor knowing her, and she will never be forgotten. I truly believe that God sent me to her. I am truly blessed to have known her and her beautiful family. Mom I miss you everyday and I love you. Till we meet again in the kingdom of heaven. Love forever Natalya..♥️♥️🙏🙏🥰🥰

Dear Sister, The past few days have been like a dream to me, unreal. The last time you visited Nigeria, when you were leaving you were shedding tears. When I asked you why, you replied you would be missing us. That was your goodbye, alas I didn't know. Fare thee well my sister, now I could only see you in my dreams. I could only hear your voice in my heart. I didn't know our journey here on earth together would be short lived. It is heavy, it is heavy the pain in my heart as I force out these words. I need to stay strong because that is what you would want for me. I heard that you said on your death bed you wanted to go home. I believe you are home now. Thank you for leaving us in the family with two strong individuals Tomi and Timi to carry on in your stead. Thank you for leading me to the place where I started knowing God more. It had been a great privilege being in the same family with you. Once again I say fare thee well. Idowu & Kemi Williams
