Ruth Brisbane Austin Joslin passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the age of 101.
Ruth was born and grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of Willard B. and Rae Berndt Austin. She graduated from the Wilmington Friends School and the Edgewood Park School at Briarcliff Manor, New York. She then took business classes at Goldey Beacom College before being employed by the Security Storage Company.
In 1944, she married Robert E. “Bob” Joslin, also of Wilmington. Following marriage, the couple lived in New York City until Mr. Joslin’s discharge from the U. S. Army in 1946, when they returned to make their home in Wilmington. She served actively with The Junior League (including as General Chair of the Wilmington Flower Market in 1972), The Mary Campbell Center, and the McDonald’s Golf Tournament benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. A past member of the Vickmead Hunt Club, she enjoyed playing golf, gardening, needlepoint, cooking (cookbooks!), stimulating conversation and dogs.
Ruth was predeceased by Bob in 2012 and is survived by many loving friends, including the dedicated staff who provided her with excellent home care in her final years.
At Ruth’s request, services were private.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19803.
