Robert Paul Haddy, aged 65, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
In his life, Robert wore many hats: husband, father, friend, uncle, electrician, athlete, musician, and the handyman you knew you could call for help. He had a generous soul, a giving heart, and a sharp mind that allowed him to fulfill all of these roles – and just about anything else you might ask of him.
From a young age, Robert took great pride in his work ethic. He held a handful of jobs during and after graduating from Roxborough High School in 1976. He later put himself through trade school at Lyons Technical Institute for Electrical Technology, finishing in 1986. Thanks to his tenacity and intelligence, he worked his way up to being a licensed high voltage electrician. Before his recent retirement, he was also the shop steward for his union: the International Union of Operating Engineers L.U. 835.
During his retirement he had the time to freely embrace some of his greatest joys throughout life: golfing, playing guitar, and shooting pool. He was so skilled in the latter that his first year in Millsboro saw him take the local league. Always the sportsman, he played tennis and had a mean spiral in his younger years. He even met his wife of 35 years while they were playing softball for the Crusaders in a work league.
Robert is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cheryl; his children Jennifer and Robert; their respective partners Edward and Sarah; his sister Victoria; and brother William and his wife Jeannie; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Clara and William, and his brother Christopher.
Memorial Service for Robert will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A visitation will be held prior from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). Robert had a lifelong soft spot for animals; his dear companion and lap cat Cheshire was adopted from PAWS.
