Jane Ann Hildick

Jane Ann Hildick (nee Utmar), age 84, of Avondale, PA passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023.

Jane was born in July 1939 to Frank and Angeline Clapcich Utmar. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, class of 1957.

Jane met the love of her life, Jim Hildick, in high school, and they were married in 1961. Jane and Jim settled in Wilmington, Delaware and that is where they raised their only child, Judith.

Jane was one of the original mompreneurs. She ran a successful physicians billing service from her home while simultaneously raising Judi, entertaining the neighborhood children in the backyard pool, and generally creating a beautiful and loving home environment. She was a complicated hybrid of Martha Stewart and General Patton. She loved beauty, creativity, organization and culinary challenges, and approached all of the above with the discipline, intelligence and emotional strength of a 5-star general. She was dedicated and demanding in all that she did and she expected nothing less of others.

In 1982, Jane and Jim purchased their first summer home in Sea Isle City, New Jersey and Jane happily traded in the home business and backyard pool to spend summers in Sea Isle. In fact, the happiest days of Jane‘s life were those spent with her family in Sea Isle – sunning and socializing on the beach, cooking spaghetti and crabs with her own mother and tending to her enviable and award winning flower gardens.

Despite a series of health challenges for both Jane and Jim, they lived happily and lovingly together until Jim passed away in 2018. Jane approached every adversity and challenge with a stoic “c’est la vie” attitude.

Jane will be missed and lovingly remembered every single day by her daughter Judith. Before her passing, Jane was comforted in knowing that Judi had found the love of her life and was now caring for, and being cared for by, her own wonderful husband, Brad Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Jane’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN, 38148–0142.

Funeral Services

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE 19807.  Interment will be private.

Condolences

    James Talbot writes,
We are sincerely saddened by the passing of Cousin Jane. Whereas the years and distances kept us apart, she was always in our thoughts and prayers, and will continue to be so. When we were younger, the times spent at her house at Oakfield Lane were special, as Jane and Jim were known for their great parties and warm receptions. Further to that, when we visited her Jersey shore house in Sea Isle, we were always welcome and enjoyed both the company and the setting. A fond adieu to Jane. Jim and Nancy

Judi I offer my sincere sympathy to you as you travel this journey. Please know my heart aches for you. We as children can be selfish and want our mothers to stay physically here on earth forever. But, if we believe in life, we must believe in death, as they come from the same hand of God and I pray He heals your broken heart as only He can.
