Susan (Soonie) Mulford

Susan (Soonie) Solter Mulford, died on September 24, following complications from surgery. Over the last 25 years Soonie bravely fought the debilitating effects from back surgery and a massive infection. She was a fierce warrior who unfortunately lost her last battle.

Soonie was born on August 27, 1945 and grew up in Baltimore. She is predeceased by her parents, Susan Sinclair Wagner and George Dulaney Solter.

Soonie attended the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore and graduated from Stratford College in Virginia. Upon graduation she worked in Public Relations for Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. On Labor Day weekend 1970 she met her future husband John in Rehoboth. They were married the following April and their daughter Susan was born six years later.

Soonie was an active member in the community, working on many projects as a member of The Junior League of Delaware in addition to fundraising for the DFRC’s Holidazzle and the Pilot School’s Circus.  She served on the Board of Directors of The Centerville School, The Pilot School and the Delaware SPCA. However, her favorite job was serving as a docent at Winterthur Museum.

Soonie’s greatest joys were her family, daughter Susan and husband John. But her many dogs were close behind! She is survived by her sister Catherine Pollock of Vero Beach, FL, her brother John Ritchie Solter of Baltimore, MD and many nieces and nephews. Soonie’s kindness and generosity will be missed not only by her many dear friends but by the many folks she met while traveling through life.
