Jenny Aunet

Jenny Leliah Aunet, aged 43, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Sunday, June 18 at Wilmington Hospital.  Jenny was a 1998 graduate of Tower Hill School.  She earned her B.S. degree in Art History and Anthropology at Vanderbilt University in 2002 and her Master’s degree in Social Studies Education at the University of Delaware in 2006.

Jenny loved art, nature, history, travel, family vacations in Wisconsin and time spent with friends, family and extended family.  She adored her rescue pup Cupcake.  Jenny loved teaching, especially teenagers.  She began her career at Pencader Charter High School, and was named Charter School Teacher of the Year in 2010.  Following the closure of Pencader, she taught at Delaware Military Academy until the time of her death.  She greatly valued the friendships and camaraderie she found with the DMA staff and (usually) enjoyed the antics of her students.

Jenny was predeceased by her father, Gerald (Jerry) Aunet Sr. and brother, Jeffrey Aunet.  She is survived by her mother, Cathy Hamilton, and brothers Jerry Aunet Jr. (Valerie) and Jon Aunet (Vickie).  She is also survived by nephews Jerry (Caitlin), Matt (Danielle) and Jordan and nieces Mandie (Luke) and Brittany.  She leaves behind great niece and god-daughter Teagan, great nieces Aria and Lakely, great-nephew Lyle, and a large extended family.  Jenny was much loved and her passing leaves a large hole in the lives of those who cared for her.

Funeral Services

Visitation will be at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday July 12.  Her funeral service and burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who choose to commemorate Jenny do so by making a donation in Jenny’s name to Delaware Military Academy or to the animal rescue charity of their choice.

My sincerest condolences to the family and dear friends on the loss of Ms. Aunet. I attended Pencader from 2006 to 2010. She was my homeroom teacher freshman year and I was in her Social Studies classes for 2 years. I didn’t even think I liked Social Studies but she had a way with making it intriguing and interesting . What an impact she has had on so many students and teachers. So thankful for her kindness and to have been taught by her. Peace and strength to all her loved ones.

My sincerest condolences go out to Ms. Aunet’s family and friends. Ms. Aunet was easily one of the best teachers I ever had, even beyond my time at Pencader Charter (2006-2010). She was always incredibly patient and kind with every single student, and her love/knowledge of social studies and teaching was always evident when you were in her classroom. I’m certain she has left a lasting positive impact on so many of her students, such as she did on myself. She will be truly missed.

Ms. Aunet, it was always fun talking tp you. We could talk for a while about events in past or present. I was so excited to have your class next year since I hadn't had a class with you yet. Over our times talking we became pretty decent friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our after school talks. My afternoons won't be the same without you Ms.Aunet. Fly High.

Jenny was one of the kindest, smartest, funniest, hard working people I have known. Working with her for 5 years at the Delaware Military and sharing students, it was obvious to me the love and respect they felt for her. I appreciated her organization of "Lab" events that helped bring us together as a staff. We shared laughs and stories that I will remember always. Jenny will be missed, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Jenny! I have missed you for years now, but you are my best friend from THS! I would have never made it without you. In every regard, laughter, studying, your family letting me stay over all the time, the VHS tape collection of yours, our long distance phone call bill (we got in trouble for many times). You are a great friend and always would be. I imagined we would cross paths again someday, Like maybe we had the keys to Candy Closet and we could “shop” for candy almost all day! Instead of school! We learned what the www meant together! Wired. Our class of 4 people, you, me, SP, CG. 1996? Earth day parking the GMC truck full of recycling! To make a statement and a. Difference. We all know YOU AND I equalled fun! Love you Jenny- Dr. Kristin McCann

I am just seeing this now. Jenny was a beloved part of an online community with me, and I am so devastated to see the news of her death. I wish I had known how to get in contact with her mom, as I emailed her recently, checking in. Thinking of her fondly and sending much love to her family, whom she absolutely adored. I can’t imagine how greatly she is missed by her colleagues, students, friends, and family. You are all in my thoughts during this first holiday without her.
