Beloved Father, Brother and Grandfather Richard ‘Dick’ James Harrison died at the age of 78 on May 8, after a valiant nine-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of almost 38 years, Linda Lynch Harrison, sister Katherine Mann (Bill), son Richard J. Harrison (Xiomara), daughter Heather Lynch Hansen, daughter Katherine Betterly (Luke), son Joshua Lynch (Angelique), plus grandchildren William and Grayson Betterly, Xavier Harrison and Lucia and Espen Hansen. He was looking forward to the birth of his fifth grandson this summer, James Richard Lynch. He was preceded in death by daughter Laury Ann Lynch.
Dick, Dad, Papa and Big Papa was bigger than life in stature, impact and personality. He was an avid tennis player and skilled sailor, pursuing both with a good-natured but unmistakable competitive spirit. He worked at DuPont Co. for 25 years, and after early retirement in 1991, he worked in biomedical device development as a consultant, relishing in the entrepreneurial cycle and patent filing.
He had boundless spontaneity and a sense of adventure, finding the fun in the most mundane parts of everyday life. He loved traveling the globe with Linda and attending just about any theater or musical performance available anywhere. He loved romance, magicians, Broadway music and parties. He also loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and family.
When he was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2014, he chose to pursue every treatment, every clinical trial to extend his life. His optimism and fight never wavered.
