Ethel Rossiter Vandegrift

Ethel Rossiter Vandegrift of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania passed away on April 17, 2023 at the age of 96. Born in 1926 to the late Mahlon and Ethel Rossiter in Radnor, Pennsylvania, where she resided for her first 20 years.

She attended Drexel University and received her B.S. in Home Economics in 1948. She began teaching that year at P.S. DuPont High School, where she met her future husband, Bill. After twenty years and four children, she returned to teach Kindergarten followed by Home Arts at the Bush School. She enjoyed golf, singing, sewing, bridge and volunteering for various organizations. She was a member of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Wilmington for over 50 years. After living in Carrcroft for over 40 years, she moved to Maris Grove, Glen Mills, in April, 2007. One of her greatest enjoyments in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, William Vandegrift, Jr. She is survived by her four children; Scott of Quarryville, Pa.; Patricia (Robert Smagala), Richard (Janna), David (Susan) all of Wilmington, Delaware; grandchildren Julie, Neil, Trevor, Robert, Jr., Jaclyn, Virginia, Amy, Lea and Tim; great grandchildren Kyle, Kayla, Trevor, Aliza, Jack, Madi, Donna, Novella, Zachary, Evelyn, and Samuel. A new great-granddaughter will be joining the family in June.

The family would like to thank Maris Grove for giving our Mom sixteen years of a happy and active lifestyle and Rose Court for their care the last two weeks.

Services will be on Monday April 24, 2023 at 11:00 in the Maris Grove Chapel at 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, Pa. Reception to follow. Interment will be in the Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maris Grove Benevolent Care Fund at the above address.
